LTC Mathieu – Intersection of Policy and Practice
February 19 @ 11:30 - 13:00Free
Members: Join us next Tuesday as we welcome, for the first time in our chapter’s collective memory, a serving Army officer, CISSP certification holder, AND local chapter member: LTC David Mathieu. LTC Mathieu will discuss how policy and practice intersect in today’s DoD IT workforce.
“Our security policy would be just perfect if it weren’t for those silly users…right?” We have some of the smartest and best-trained security administrators in the world, armed with a security policy intended to stand against the best of the best from nation states who attack our networks every hour of every day.
What we do and how we do it matters. It’s an impossible job, and yet we get it done every day, but at what cost? Are we misled into thinking we’re helping our organizations while we’re actually hurting them? Do we have the best security policies in place? If not, how can we make our policies and IT support better? Next week’s presentation will briefly examine this topic and see what non-governmental agencies suggest.
LTC Mathieu (CISSP) is a 37 year career Signal Corps veteran, spaceflight engineer, DOIM for Ballad Iraq, and long-time G6 with the 38th ID. Among other career accolades, LTC Mathieu has also served on the Reserve Cyber Teams Deployment Strategy Committee, and was a minor contributor to a white paper written for the US Congress discussing the National Policy Concerns surrounding the effects of RFID use in American Society. He is an MBA graduate with a wealth of tactical experience, national policy development & strategic planning.
